About Cape Dreams

Location

Our wines emanate from the world famous Robertson Valley.  Robertson is 140 km from Cape Town and is known as the valley of wine and roses.  It is situated along the Breede River and the Langeberg Mountain Range.

Winery & Cellar

The winery is fully equipped with modern technology and has ISO9001 and HACCP accreditation.  The bottling plant is certified for BRC.  With a team of dedicated and acclaimed winemakers who are constantly experimenting with new wines ultimately resulting in a broad offering.  We have the facility and ability to adapt the style of the wine to meet market specifications.

Climate

The Robertson Valley is characterised by cold winters and sunny summers, with an average annual rainfall of 350 – 400 mm.  Although summer temperatures can be high, it has south-easterly winds which have a cooling effect on the vineyards.  This allows the grapes to ripen evenly and in perfect balance.  Nights are chilly and during summer months a mist often shrouds the vineyards until late morning.  The dry climate and the bracing breeze keep pests to a minimum, resulting in sparse spraying programmes.

Soils & Terrior

Robertson soils have the highest free limestone content in South Africa which is ideal for winemaking as this drives the important pH structure required for fruit balance.  The landscape is flat along the Breede River and changes to rolling hills at the foot of the Langeberg mountain.  There are two dominant soil types which are red clay loam and sandy alluvial soil which have good water retention and ideal for growing quality grapes.

Heritage

South Africa has one of the oldest Viticulture Soils in the world dating back 500 million years.  The Indian and Atlantic oceans encircling the Cape creates cool breezes, wind and fog.  This is what contributes to the unique microclimates in the Cape Winelands.  South Africa has been making wines for over 350 years.  Wine making is a tradition embedded in our culture.
